Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the author and/or publisher through the Speakeasy blogging book review network. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

I am not a big reader of historical fiction, it is not my favorite genre but I could not put this book down. It centers on the centurion who executes Jesus. The author uses historical places and people mentioned in the Bible and it is was very well researched. I was drawn to the backstories and to the threads of actions and their consequences, the struggle for forgiveness. I was immersed in the time and lands where Hebrews, Gentiles, Romans and others lived. I felt the tensions and so many emotions. I wanted more after I finished.
