First things first I received this book free from the author and/or publisher through the Speakeasy blogging book review network. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
I picked this book, The Power of the Creed by Mark Nauroth, to read because being an Episcopalian we recite the Nicene Creed every Sunday. I honestly never gave it much thought, it was just something to be memorized. I knew the basic history of how it came into being as well. This book goes all the way beyond all that. It breaks up the Creed into easy sections and provides a bit of background via history and scripture when needed to dig deeper into the words and meanings. It pulls back the veil of something we say every Sunday and don't think much about. The author breathes life back into the Creed to make it relevant again and not some seemingly dusty relic we recite mindlessly. The Creed takes on a living persona so to speak once you finish the book. This is a very powerful and thought provoking piece of writing. It has become one of my favorites.
